I love the frankness of DPRK tour guides.
Guide: "Many things happened last year here in our country. There was a lot of flooding, as you may have heard, in the northwest last summer, and about 5,000 people lost their homes."
Tourist: "Yeah, that's terrible. So they're homeless now.
Guide: "Ah, no, they were all given places to stay in hotels in Pyongyang."
Tourist: "Oh, well that's good. But when will they have their own homes again?"
Guide: "Mm, well, we were told they would have newly built homes in October."
Tourist: "That's a very short amount of time. And it's April now."
Guide: "Yes, well, of course, construction is hard work, and not everything goes as planned, so there were delays..."
Tourist: "So we don't know when they're going to have homes again."
Guide: "Oh, no, they then promised it would be done in December, and it was done. They were all able to spend New Years in their new homes."
