Operational security is for when you actually have, y'know, an operation. If you don't (and no, your book club is not a fucking operation), WHY ARE YOU BEING SO QUIET?! SPEAK UP! STOP BEING SUCH A CHICKEN!
You're in a whole sea of working class people who think they're the only one who want real change, because they're all too scared to talk about it.

All these Youtube videos being fed to me now like "Pyongyang is a city reserved only for the MOST ELITE and LOYAL of North Korean citizens, but even there are stores that only a few people are allowed to shop in, it truly is an authoritarian hellhole"
bitch have you ever even been to a capitalist city before. I'd 100% rather I be told where to live according to how well I served my countrymen and political party that I have made the decision to belong to, rather than according to how much money my grandparents made and told that it's my fault I'm poor, can't afford to live in the core, and just need to pull myself up by my bootstraps.

Wondering about North Korea's position on all the garbage the Trump administration is doing — from Gaza, to deportations, to tariffs and withdrawal from international organizations? It's a very nuanced and well-informed, but also stalwart response, and I have to say, I agree with it entirely. The English is a bit broken, as usual, in these translated articles, but I must urge you this is worth the read, even if you normally aren't the least bit interested in what North Korea has to say.

I've gotten a few new followers lately, so I'd like to drop a reminder that, while I don't stick it in my profile, I'm #nonbinary and have undergone #vaginoplasty in Canada. I had next to no resources on my own journey, so I'm very happy to be a resource for you or anyone that you know who is considering the procedure themselves and might have questions or concerns.

Healthcare is a basic human right, and basic human rights should be accessible for everyone. Anyone who thinks basic human rights can be used for profit is seriously a psychopathic sadist.

I've been thinking for a couple months now: I should really get back into conlanging. I might be doxxing myself a little here, but at this point I don't know if I care: I'm looking for people who would like to help develop languages in The Elder Scrolls universe.
I am the original person who first worked on deciphering the grammar of Ta'agra (the Khajiiti language) and Jel (the Argonian language). Zenimax has shown that they're very open to fans continuing work on their languages, and making that work canon where appropriate. So while I could just take up the mantle again, especially considering The Ta'agra Project now seems to be defunct, it would lend more credibility to the work (and be a lot more fun) with a community of fellow nerds who would like to make up words for cat and lizard people, and hopefully the other cultures of Tamriel and beyond.
I've got the grammar largely sorted of both the aforementioned languages, so we just need words and people who would have fun using them. I do also have a formal education in linguistics and a lot of experience as a conlanger, so, I know my shit. Other than Ta'agra and Jel, I have a number of original languages, and have specialized in taking pseudo-conlangs from media and turning them into languages with actual grammars, including Asuran from Guild Wars 2, and Mantis from FTL: Faster Than Light. Hopefully that doesn't scare you off; anyone can create languages, especially words and new works in those languages. Come enjoy a new way to be artistic!
At its basis it'll be a Discord server (at least until Discord stops being the default place for nerds to gather) but I'm willing to bridge it to Telegram and Signal as well via Matrix. discord.gg/AkVqPevhq9

Current beef: The word "trigger".
We don't even use this word much, if at all, anymore in the mental health support field, because the term has become so muddied by liberals. It originally referred to circumstances that caused flashbacks in people with PTSD, but people have appropriated it to mean anything that makes them feel upset, as a reason to simply not engage with anything they find personally difficult. Someone calling you out isn't a "trigger". Engaging in political discourse is not "triggering". You're just a coward, trying to justify your cowardice, and your cowardice has not only made you unashamedly noxious to people around you and completely inert (just the way the capitalist system wants you to be) but has also caused the erasure and invalidation of people who do actually have debilitating trauma-based mental illness that they are seeking support for.
Liberals took one look at this and, in their infinite wisdom, coined the term 'tankie' to whine about the Soviet Union 'crushing a genuine worker revolution'.
Fast forward a few decades, and... surprise! Turns out it was a CIA-backed coup all along. But hey, who needs facts when you’re a liberal?

@redauburn it's from here, but not sure which exact doc it is unfortunately
archives.gov/research/jfk/rele…
JFK Assassination Records - 2025 Documents Release
March 18, 2025 Release In accordance with President Donald Trump’s directive of March 17, 2025, all records previously withheld for classification that are part of the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection are released.National Archives
archives.gov/files/research/jf…
Additionally, a comrade made a search engine for the JFK files over here. Google on the backend, but we're already on so many lists (and I'm sure archives.gov is one more list farming op, but my tin foil cap is getting a little itchy) it isn't funny, so meh:
I've seen some criticism of the interpretation of this source however, mostly boiling down to "They weren't called 'Hungarian Freedom Fighters' until after they fled the failed revolution". Take that as you will, of course.
Personally, it's an interesting vindication, but not the silver bullet that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Hungarian uprising was CIA sponsored. But, I mean, it matches the pattern, and US very definitely bad, so... *Shrug*
I may have figured out at least one reason why #Friendica always seems so slow.
The memory limit of PHP is low, and has some(?) external variable in conf.d/friendica.ini that overrides the setting in php.ini. Before this, my deferred workers list was up to 999 (even before re-setting up the cron job). According to the table it was in reality over 4,400. Now, after increasing the limit in both ini files (and just straight up wiping the workersqueue table after), it's back down to 68, and the server runs faster than it ever did. I think workers get deferred over and over for external reasons, and eventually these build up past the point that the worker can handle it, because of the memory limit, bogging down the server.

I'm still getting this issue with #friendica on #docker with the worker cron job.
Mar 18 15:30:10 Deb CROND[303206]: (root) CMDOUT (PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 300000000 bytes) in /var/www/html/src/Object/Image.php on line 224)
I'm not sure if it was happening before the move, but I have a feeling. I've tried setting a different size in /usr/local/etc/php/php.ini and in .htaccess, and restarting the container, but it doesn't seem to respond to either of those.
OK, hopefully that solves my database issues. Friendica is running a little faster now at least.
However, I unfortunately nuked my Matrix, so please, if you had me on Matrix, let me know your address so we can connect again!
Also if you're seeing this at all, I'd appreciate if you starred it just so I know my worker is working. Thanks.
Not to be alarmist...well, maybe, but a #famine will be incoming for the United States. Famines under capitalism tend to take the form of "there's food, we promise, it just happens to be too expensive for you to afford", so...you've technically been under famine conditions for a little while, but it's about to get a whole lot worse. Your latest administration has completely slashed agricultural subsidies, drained a reservoir in California, and levied tariffs on the three countries it imports the most food from. This is a good time to remember that many revolutions are preceded by famines, and it's time for you to start preparing and start organizing with anyone you can, before you're starving — which, again, I'm sorry to say, it's going to happen.
Talk openly about it; this is the time you can do it safely, and that window is going to be short. Find anyone, literally anyone, who is willing to talk back about the possibility of organizing together. It can be as simple as a mutual aid group, to try to afford bulk food more cheaply together when this happens, but we here, the people of the imperialized world, your fellow workers, are hoping that you will do more, and fight to end both famine and fascism in your country once and for all, no matter what it takes.

There is also the question of "who is going to harvest the food?" since la migra is coming onto farms and rounding up farmworkers.
Red Paw Collective was a failure as a space because of the apathy that gradually settled into the community. Apathy breeds apathy, and, as one friend and ex-member put it to me, it self-selects: People who care in an otherwise apathetic space end up leaving for the sake of their own sanity.
I'm hoping to form another community on Matrix, with these lessons kept in mind. If you're viewing this post, you're invited.
This will be a community of anticapitalist solidarity, open and inclusive to all revolutionary anticapitalists in solidarity with the entirety of the working class without discrimination. This has been the three-point membership requirement for years, and it has been extremely effective, allowing Leninists, Maoists, anarchists, classical Marxists, and plenty of others to engage progressively with one another.
We will also retain our democracy. RPC's democracy was very successful and effective in empowering its members and creating a community that felt safe and appealed to people.
RPC was, as the community-chosen name implies, a fairly furry-heavy community, as that was also a focus of its founding members. This new community will eschew that focus. I would like to be more inclusive and less intimidating to people outside this subculture. I believe this secondary focus is also partly the cause of the apathy that would eventually lead to the community's downfall.
Finally, in correcting for those past mistakes, this new community would have the additional requirement that active members are also active in some form of organization within the space. This may be as simple as starting out with a reading club or mock debate, building our theoretical foundations, but as time goes on and hopefully we grow, we will branch into more depending on the interests and talents of our membership. For this reason, we will be on Matrix and only on Matrix, on a privately hosted server outside of the United States. Although we encourage relationship-building between comrades and may have rooms pertaining to shared interests, they will not be a focus, and if a member is engaging in only these secondary rooms without engaging in foundation-building or organization, they will be invited to self-criticize.
If you are interested in being a founding member of this space, leave a reply or send me a DM. There are a few of us already, and once we have a good small group going, I'll pull the trigger, and Workers of the World will have a new live space, ready to be built from the ground up.

Interested in getting back in with that.
I showed up to book club frequently enough, so I'll be with the new book club.
