Because you are worth nothing except as a part of the glorious workers' paradise. The great soviet has determined the appropriate corn and you were outvoted, so you don't get to pick the corn because The Party has determined which corn produces the most bushels per acre for the glory of the socialist republic.
During the last vote it was decided that we would prioritize the dignity of workers over the glory of the state. We determined that farmers can grow pretty much whatever they want as long as they’re respectful of their neighbors. Additionally as part of our agricultural department’s work they will add novel hybrids grown by farmers to our seed bank so that people will have access to a variety of crops and can choose what best suits their climate and needs. Obviously the department has recommendations for what to grow, but we’re not ignorant of the fact that all things change in time. Climate, soil quality, people’s tastes, etc.
Also as part of our efforts we’ll try to stay ahead of outstanding circumstances such as a fungus or parasite destroying an overly relied upon crop.
If you have any suggestions for changes please submit a pull request to our legal code in source control. To be respectful of people’s time we recommend discussing changes with neighbors and colleagues before submitting a pull request, as many problems can be resolved without involvement of the law.
This is such a cartoonishly bad caricature of socialism, democracy, and agriculture in general. What's your point? Is your conception of anarchism one that doesn't need agricultural science? Is your strawman one that requires science to be poor if it's done by socialists? This isn't even how central planning works.
If your goal is to spark a conversation around Marxist socialism vs anarchism, then you could have made at least some attempt to deliver an initial point.
Absolutely. I don't use the term lightly. Frankly, even the presumably-Marxist up there trying to make a defence is living in a weird fantasy version of it. If there's a difference between the dignity of workers and the "glory of the state", you're not talking about a worker's democracy, you're talking about a comic-book western interpretation of what socialist nationalism looks and sounds like.
I feel pretentious as hell, but it has to be said that all in all this thread is full of disappointment on all ends. And now that I'm back to read it even more...where are the mods to take care of the bozos going on about gulags and icepicks?
Yep, it's a regular occurance here, this is Lemmy.ml, which is broadly federated. The more consistent instances like Hexbear and Lemmygrad will have far fewer of these strawman "gotchas," and more people that have made it a point to study theory and join an org.
On the flip side, Lemmy.ml is a fantastic place to correct these misconceptions for those who don't already know much theory or history. It has a lot of liberals visiting, but the mods don't remove Marxist responses that other instances like Lemmy.world would.
Unless you're specifically in the business of growing seed corn, ain't no one ever going to get sued for cross pollination. Field corn is sterile and cannot reproduce viable offspring.

Glory to the revolution!
